So, lets hear what some of your favortie movies are, and let everyone know what you though of them. Personally, I'd especially like to hear about some that are underrated, or not necessarily ones that everyone else has seen a bazillion times along with the favorites that we all know. Lets get on with it!! Best movie of 06 was for me, The Departed. As a huge fan of Martin Scorsese, and also of the original Hong Kong action flick Infernal Affairs that this one is an American reworking of, I was super excited to see what he'd do with this thing, and boy did it deliver the goods!! Not only did they do a spectacular job of using the original as a guide without just copying it, they raised the bar and managed to make a film that was far batter than the original. The action is more intense, the characters are not only better in their performances, but they are far more interesting and realistic. All around a deeper, more exhilirating experience. One of Scorsese's top 5 films. A classic.... but, I've rambled a bit here. I could go on much longer, bt I'll stop now. Perhaps I'll write a full review of it in the near future. So, waddya got, folks?

I love Takashi Miike. For folks that don't know he's the Japanese fella that directed Audition, Ichi the Killer and about 100 others. Anyway, a few days back I got one of his most recent movies: IZO. It blew my goddamn mind. Pretty much every single scene in this movie is fascinating. Izo is semi-randomly placed in all sorts of situations and times, both modern and historical--to kill people. He kills nearly every single person that crosses his path actually, from abhorrent aristocrats to innocent bystanders, even children and his own mother. And while he does all this killing there are lots of really interesting ideas swirling around about rebelliousness against a so-called perfect society, rejecting religion, humanity's blood lust, and heaps of other interesting ideas. It's a really, really cool movie.
